MICA opened this morning
On the sidelines of the twenty-sixth edition of FESPACO, the African film and television market (MICA) opened its doors this Sunday, February 24, 2019, in Ouagadougou, on the Place de la Nation. This is an opportunity for festival-goers, distributors and broadcasters to establish business relationships and various partnerships with filmmakers. During this first day, the European Union, the first partner of the Panafrican Festival of Cinema and Television of Ouagadougou (Fespaco) for 40 years has announced to bring “its specialized expertise for the professionalization of Fespaco”. Stefano Manservisi, the Director General for Development and International Cooperation of the European Commission, who is on an official visit to Burkina Faso, announced that the EU will participate in the promotion of African cinema and works awarded by the FESPACO jury. It will provide subtitling and dubbing in a second international language as well as in an African language of the three fiction films awarded Etalon prizes at the Festival. In addition, it is planned the organization of two major events outside the continent – a sort of delocalized Fespaco – the “Fespaco in Paris” and the “Fespaco in Brussels”.
Recall that the Fespaco started this Saturday, February 23 under tribute to the pioneers of African cinema.
